Schemes of long distance carriers

The following are schemes used by different long distance companies into tricking you and switching to their long distance company:

Checks in the Mail

Other long distance carriers would send you a check if you would switch your long distance service to them. Although this may be a good deal, compare first if they would give you the lowest rate for your long distance calls or if it would help you save money. Make sure you are getting the best deal before signing up to their services.

Discount Plans

Telemarketing or unsolicited mails will inform you that they have the lowest rate if you switch to them. Compare if the rates that they are offering are lower than the ones that you already have. Usually, they would compare their rate on a high priced long distance carrier. You need to carefully examine telephone or mail solicitations. Ask more questions and find out about any hidden costs, restrictions or contracts associated with discount plans. If you are not getting straight answers, you probably have a reason to be suspicious.

Five-Digit Discount Codes

Pay a lot of attention if you get an offer that says you can have big savings if you use the five-digit discount codes. It will not change your long distance carrier but it may connect you with a long distance company that would charge you with a higher rate that you are paying right now.

Short-Term Bargains

Another strategy for you to switch to their long distance company is that they offer you a certain service at a discounted fee. But, these types of bargains may only last for a week or a month. After the promo you might automatically continue the service at their regular rate, which might be higher than what you usually pay for, unless you cancel it. Remember that your local telephone company charges a fee to change your long distance company. Some long distance companies will pay this charge if you switch to their service but also consider that other long distance companies do not.
